Tessa Carroll
Licensed Master Social Worker
I am a dedicated social worker who emphasizes growth and self-reflection as key elements of my practice. I earned my master’s degree at the Columbia School of Social Work, where I learned person-centered practices and the importance of providing care tailored to the individual rather than the diagnosis.
Each individual brings a unique perspective and background to therapy. As a practitioner, I emphasize a systems approach, examining the ways that a client’s gender identity, race, class, environment, and overall upbringing impact their current mental health. Therapy can be a place to challenge our personal narratives and open ourselves up to a new perspective. While these changes can invite discomfort, with a collaborative approach to therapy, we will examine these emotions together and practice skills that illicit acceptance and peace.
Across my career, I have enjoyed working in many settings including inpatient eating disorder care, domestic violence advocacy, and outpatient mental health counseling. By building a warm and supportive rapport, I work directly with the client to deeply understand their therapeutic goals. As a generalist, I provide interventions consistent with CBT, DBT and ACT and work with clients from adolescence across the lifespan. At the core, my practice centers vulnerability and present moment awareness.
